This October, Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice is teaming up with three local solicitors generously offering their time and expertise free of charge to help supporters write a basic will, in return for a voluntary donation to support babies, children, and young people who are seriously unwell, and their families.
Writing a Will is one of the most important decisions you can make and it’s also an opportunity to make a lasting difference to others.
Ahead of Make a Will Month, Chris Yiannakas from YVA Solicitors, stressed the importance of making a Will:
“If one dies without a Will, they are said to die intestate. When one dies intestate, the law dictates who gets what. That is why it is vital that one prepares a Will to ensure that assets pass to the people they want.”

Chris also shared some practical advice when it comes to choosing someone to carry out your wishes:
“Choose an executor who you trust, someone who you know will follow the terms of your Will and ensure the assets pass to the correct beneficiaries as swiftly as possible.”
There are also financial benefits to including charitable donations in your Will, as Chris explains:
“If one’s estate is over certain thresholds, inheritance tax will be payable at 40%. However, if one gifts assets to charities like Noah’s Ark, that gift would be tax free thereby reducing any inheritance tax liability.”
When asked why YVA Solicitors chose to take part in Make a Will Month, Chris told us:
“Simple. Noah’s Ark is an excellent cause. The least my team and I can do is offer our time to try and raise money for such an important cause.”
