Meet Ray and Arthur
At Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice, we’ve had the privilege of supporting Roscoe, Gina and their twin boys, Ray and Arthur, for over 12 years.
Ray has cerebral palsy and complex medical needs. He needs 24/7 care, uses a feeding tube, a wheelchair, and communicates in his own unique way - without words, but never without expression. He’s full of character and lights up every room he's in.

Arthur is thoughtful, kind and always looking out for his twin brother.
Roscoe and Gina first came into contact with Noah’s Ark when his sons were just six months old. “That moment changed everything,” Roscoe told us. “Having someone step into our home to help us as we were trying look after two babies, one with additional needs, meant everything.”
Respite Care at The Ark
Twelve years later, we’re still there. Earlier this year, Roscoe and his two sons stayed at The Ark, our hospice building in Barnet.

For a few days, Ray received expert care from our dedicated team of nurses and carers, while Roscoe and Arthur stayed close by in our family accommodation. The three of them enjoyed some time together, as well as Roscoe being able to spend some quality time with Athur. Gina was able to relax at home, knowing her family were safe and being taken care off.
“It felt like a hotel,” Roscoe said. “We could truly relax, something we hadn’t felt in a long time. That kind of respite is something families like mine dream of. It took so much pressure off.”

More Than Just Care: A Whole Community
Life at home isn’t always easy. Ray’s needs are changing and unfortunately their home is no longer suitable, with Roscoe carrying Ray up the stairs each night. He shares:
“That takes its toll, but we keep going. And we’re not doing it alone. We’re still in the game! And Noah’s Ark is a big part of why.”
Our support for siblings, like Arthur, is just as important. He attends our Siblings’ Weekends, where he gets to have fun and make friends who understand. Roscoe says:
“The siblings weekend away gives him a proper break and a real confidence boost, he comes home full of stories and smiles. Noah’s Ark offers this and all of their support free-of-charge, we wouldn’t be able to do things like this otherwise.”

For Roscoe, our Dads’ Group has become a safe space to share, laugh, and connect with other fathers on similar journeys. Roscoe says of the Dads’ Group: “No awkward explanations. No judgment. Just dads who get it.”

For Ray’s family, the support provided by Noah’s Ark has been life-changing. As Roscoe explains:
“Noah’s Ark gives us so much more than care. They give us joy, space to breath, and opportunities we never thought possible. They give us time together as a family and a community who cares. We’d be lost without them.”
With thanks to Roscoe, Gina, Ray and Arthur for kindly allowing us to share their story.
