Nikki has been volunteering for Noah’s Ark since 2018.
She started volunteering part-time in our retail shop and now wears many hats as a volunteer receptionist, specialist care and therapies technician, fundraising office support and as a Community Ambassador.
Nikki is a familiar face already in many schools, having held over a dozen assemblies now for Noah’s Ark on a variety of subjects (our services, careers, kindness and thank you presentations), but also in her professional life.
As well as volunteering at Noah’s Ark, Nikki also currently works in a voluntary capacity as a school governor.
Nikki has a background working with children, in particular with SEN. She has also worked as a physiotherapist and therapies manager.
Throughout her professional career Nikki has been an advocate for education and accessibility. She has attended many careers evenings to speak with pupils, held assemblies on disability, and lectured on disability to Early Years practitioners, teachers, and allied health practitioners.
Nikki’s favourite quote was from a student at a school where she delivered our Power of Kindness assembly. The student said, “being kind is appreciating every child for who he or she is.”
In response, Nikki said that “in the world we live in, this quote tells a thousand words. Seeing the impact that talking about the work we do, and our values has, makes it worthwhile.”
“[Volunteering for Noah’s Ark] speaks to my personal ethos: embedding values of kindness and giving back. You never know – giving these talks may inspire the next generation to become care staff, fundraisers, or even medical researchers.”
Laura Grundy, Community Engagement Manager said:
“Having volunteers like Nikki on our team is an enormous help, meaning that we can reach more people and local community groups, including schools. Nikki has been instrumental in helping us deliver our first lesson plan, The Power of Kindness, speaking in assemblies for participating schools. With our second lesson plan pack in progress for a Spring launch we’re looking forward to working with more schools in 2025.”
