At Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice, we recognise that every mother’s journey is unique. Whether caring for a child with complex medical needs or navigating the grief of loss, every mother deserves support, understanding, and a sense of community.
Through emotional support, respite care, parent groups, and holistic services, we help mothers feel less alone and more supported in their journey.
Today, we are honoured to share the stories of two incredible mothers, Bekki and Katie, who reflect on what being a mum means to them and how Noah’s Ark has supported them.
Bekki – Mum to Jaylah, Lexie, Savannah, Alayah, and Ronnie
Bekki’s journey of motherhood has been filled with both joy and heartache. As a devoted mother to her children, including her son Ronnie, who sadly died in 2022, she has faced unimaginable pain. Through it all, her children remain her greatest pride.
“My experience of being a mum has had its ups and downs from moments of being completely overwhelmed and full of grief, but also completely in awe of the children I’ve created, they are my proudest accomplishment.”
For Bekki, Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice has been a lifeline, providing essential support to help her navigate her grief while also guiding her children through their emotions in an age-appropriate and understanding way.
“The support Noah’s Ark has given us has been vital in being able to grieve as a mum and also to support my children through all of the emotions and questions in the best ways possible. I don’t know where we would be without you all.”
Katie – Mum to Leia, Robin, and Dylan
Katie is the proud mother of three children. Her daughter, Leia, has a life-limiting condition, and alongside being her mum, Katie takes on the roles of carer, nurse, advocate, and hospital companion. Even through challenges, motherhood has given Katie a profound sense of purpose and strength.
“My experience of being a mum has been beautiful, heartbreaking, life-affirming and made me the person I am today. I have learned more from being my daughter’s mummy than any other experience in my life.”
Motherhood has shaped every aspect of Katie’s life, even influencing her work as a teacher. It has helped her see the world differently and deepened her understanding of working with all children.
‘As a Noah’s Ark mum, I feel a sense of connection to other mums of children with life-limiting conditions. The support we receive at The Ark as mums is invaluable, from spa days to yoga mornings, dinners out to family days. Noah’s Ark allows me to just enjoy being a mum and give me some respite from the daily difficulties of caring, admin and medical complexities that Leia’s condition can bring.’
We want to thank both Bekki and Katie for bravely sharing their stories.
Happy Mother’s Day to Bekki, Katie, and all the incredible mums who give their love every day. We appreciate you today and always.
