September build update from The Ark
28 SEPTEMBER 2018
Our build team is working hard to get The Ark finished - see how we're getting on.
As the opening of The Ark gets nearer, our dedicated build team have been making superb progress on what will eventually be a brand new fully functional children’s hospice!
September has seen the completion of all brickwork on site, which is a core aspect of the build ticked off the list. To think we were laying the first brick back in March, so for our specialist brickwork contractors – Langdale Associates – to have now laid the final brick already is a tremendous achievement for which they should be proud. We would like to thank Langdale Associates for their hard work and dedication in getting the job done quickly, efficiently and to a very high standard.
A building site would not be complete without the obligatory scaffolding! Although not aesthetically pleasing, scaffolding does perform a vital job in elevating and supporting our workers to carry out their tasks. However, our fantastic scaffolders – PDC Scaffolding – have been in and removed the scaffolding, which is a clear indication that we have made significant progress.
The majority of the windows and doors have been put in place, which is one step closer to the building becoming watertight. Our reliable window contractors – Kingston Joinery – have been on hand every step of the way to install our windows and doors to an extremely high quality and which we are very grateful for.
September has also seen a big push for the mechanical and electrical installations. In particular, the installation of underfloor heating. Our MEP Contractors – GEM Construct Ltd – have provided us with a dependable service and we are confident that they will complete the outstanding works ahead of schedule.
Last month also saw the commencement of the screeding works. To recap, this is a process whereby a leveled layer of material is applied to a floor over the structural concrete. We are thrilled to announce that due to Birch Screeding’s amazing efforts, the screeding works are almost complete!
We also saw significant works being carried out on the roof in September. We’re very lucky to have Voland Roofing on board and, as such, we are delighted to inform you that the roof works are now complete too! As a result, the hospice site is now really starting to take shape.
With such different and complex operations being carried out at our hospice site, as always, none of this could be done without the wonderful onsite team from 8Build. Special thanks go to Phil Juniper and Jimmy Miller for their expert coordination of all the different contractors that have contributed their skills and expertise to help bring this wonderful and worthwhile project to fruition.
We will keep you posted on further developments so check back next month for more updates.
