How Chris’s Santa Run will commemorate his old friend

17 DECEMBER 2019

Jason met up with his old friend Chris last Thursday. It was Chris’ last day running his barber’s business. It was Jason’s last day in this world.

Last Friday, Jason took his own life. To commemorate his friend, Chris has decided to dress up as Santa and run from his home in Potters Bar to The Ark  - our new hospice building, in Barnet. He will follow the same route the two of them cycled nine years ago to the day, also for Noah’s Ark Children's Hospice.

Chris wants to highlight men’s mental health whilst undertaking the run. Having sold his hairdressing shop, his new profession is a wellbeing practitioner, helping people with their mental health.

As Chris said: “This really highlights the fragility of life for me. But I wanted to turn a tragic situation into something positive.”

Since he undertook the Santa ride for Noah’s Ark in 2010, Chris has volunteered for the charity, including at family events, where he has twice dressed up… as Santa!

He continued: “I’ve been involved with Noah’s Ark Children's Hospice for a long time. When I was dressed up as Santa, I met a Greek boy and his family. I’m Greek and he was the same age as one of my children  - I thought, ‘this could be me or my family’. It was hard for them to cope but I could see that the work that Noah’s Ark was doing with the child was making such a huge difference.”
